CLIFTON, NJ – For once, it seems, a late night car alarm actually did some good.

Two plainclothes police officers were patrolling Botany Village early Thursday morning when they heard a car alarm from a nearby Volkswagen, Clifton police Detective Lt. Richard Berdnik said.

The officers, John Kavakich and Robert Suhey, directed their spotlight at a man inside the car, which was parked near Randolph and Durant avenues, Berdnik said.

“It was later determined that the individual should not have been in the victim’s car,” Berdnik said.

The individual, Carlos Pulido-Mota, 23, of Passaic stepped out, paused and then ran toward Ackerman Avenue, Berdnik said. Suhey followed on foot, while Kavakich trailed them in the officers’ unmarked cruiser.

Kavakich cut off the suspect, who then tried to climb a nearby fence. Pulido-Mota was pulled to the ground and arrested.

Pulido-Mota was charged with burglary and resisting arrest by flight. He was held Thursday at Clifton’s municipal jail on a $10,000 bail.

it seems that many of those arrested committing crimes in Clifton are usually people from Passaic and Paterson.
