NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Police say an innocent bystander was killed in a crash by two suspects who were fleeing police in northern New Jersey.

Authorities say the incident began early Tuesday in Elizabeth, when three men suspected of breaking into cars were spotted and chased by police. One was apprehended.

Police say his two companions sped north into Newark, where their stolen sport utility vehicle collided with a car driven by 42-year-old Heather Clemens of Newark. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the suspects fled into nearby Weequahic Park and remain at large.

When will the police learn not to chase, last year a little girl from Fairlawn was killed during a police chase as well. PCJN

You are 1000% correct!! They should not chase the criminals. I think they should beg the bad guys to halt in the name of the law which they obviously just violated. If that wont work, they should call the creep on his cell phone. If that wont work, perhaps a text message, email, or a facebook message will work?

Pretty simple to fix. Most criminals are repeat offenders. Just auction tickets to the state prisons, sort of like at a carnival. You get to shoot 1 felon per ticket. Gang members & organized crime folks get treated to a gasoline bath and a match so they can’t fake their way out. People (some people…) would pay good money for the tix, prison population would be down by, say, 90%, and they wouldn’t commit more crimes after they get out. There’d be plenty of extra jail space after a little cleaning. Oh, yeah, film it and sell tix to that!
